Falcon and winter Soldier Cameo Was supposed To Be part of Black Widow

Author:

sometimes life imitates art and makes us feel like we’re all part of a marvel set. In a Black Widow red carpet video that made us feel like Mobius trying to navigate a new timeline, marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked about how a Falcon and winter Soldier cameo was supposed to have appeared first in Black Widow. In the video, Feige says:

“There’s also an Easter egg that originally was going to appear first in Black Widow and then show up in Falcon and the winter Soldier, and because of the pandemic, this one thing was twisted around a little bit. So for fans that watched The Falcon and the winter Soldier, there’s something waiting…there’s an Easter egg in this film (Black Widow).”

Fans already have a pretty good idea of the Easter egg Feige is talking about: Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s (Seinfeld, Veep) appearance as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, a complicated character that had a hand in S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra, and potential romantic ties to both Nick Fury and Captain America (although this might be John walker and not Sam Wilson given how The Falcon and the winter Soldier ended).

As a reminder, marvel announced their phase 4 lineup at 2019’s Comic-Con, starting with Black Widow two months earlier and then The Falcon and the winter Soldier, WandaVision, and finally Loki. As Feige mentioned though, filming schedules got mixed around, so fans got to see Bucky and Sam in action first, which is how Louis-Dreyfus’s cameo in Falcon and winter Soldier appeared before Black Widow’s movie debut. What does this mean for the MCU? Well, fans will hopefully learn more about Val since she was originally supposed to appear in Black Widow. hopefully her character is more fleshed out than another cameo like her appearance in The Falcon and the winter Soldier. also of interest is the fact that in the comics she’s been a Russian sleeper agent throughout her time with S.H.I.E.L.D. This fits in nicely with Natasha Romanoff’s backstory of being a KGB operative and dangerous assassin. Val’s appearance could also mean major plot points for other marvel TV series. Hawkeye still has to come out, and that character was the last to see Natasha alive.
